Project Engineer/Project Manager
Most of our management team started here right out of college. Hired in positions as project engineers or project managers, allowed them to learn the “Underground Way” and to develop their construction management skills. Starting as an entry level project engineer directly out of college is an excellent way to set the foundation for continued growth within Underground Construction. Our project managers are more mid to upper level employees that have either developed via “The Underground Way” or are hired for their industry experience.
There are certain qualities that work extremely well at Underground. Our engineers/managers are detail oriented individuals with excellent “people skills.” This is a people business. We thrive because our customers continue to come back to us time and again to meet their business needs and, because we create positive business relationships with our clients. You must be willing to travel anywhere in the United States. Our projects can last from three months to three years. Our project engineers generally have a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management and some are working toward their Professional License, which we strongly encourage. Our work includes refinery and industrial work, airport fueling, and general utility work.
Our Superintendents have come up through the ranks starting their careers as laborers, operators or carpenters. An early mastery of their trade coupled with an ability to organize, lead others and promote future business through client relationships makes them a valuable asset. Superintendents distinguish themselves from foremen through their ability to manage other foremen, subcontractors, equipment and personnel. Their experience is varied allowing them to make informed decisions and balance the fine line of risk and reward.
Foremen represent our first line management. They have been selected from their respective crews to lead others. Their hard work, knowledge of the work and leadership qualities separate them from the others. They are further developed through training programs and mentoring by our Superintendents. They are the next generation of Superintendents.
